FashionGarageD; A Fashion E-Commerce on Facebook (For Now)

 | October 28, 2012 1:30 pm

Though it is common knowledge that the world of online retail has more competitors in it than ever before, what’s heartening is that some entrepreneurs believe that there is still enough space for them to create a niche. Founded by the quartet of Poonam Rai, Shivani Chemjong, Venisha Thapa, and Shiwani Mukhia ,Fashion GarageD is an online retail store which offers the latest in clothing, online. It captures the essence of street fashion and also makes high end looks available to mainstream shoppers at a fraction of the price of designer brands. Fashion GarageD is a one-stop shopping destination which intends to use the lower pricings to capture their own share of the market. What is also unique about Fashion GarageD is that they are a bootstrap venture using Facebook as a testing ground for their concepts. The foursome are new comers to entrepreneurship but their inventiveness more than makes up for their lack of experience.
Poonam explains how their use of Facebook has counteracted many of the risks that an online venture poses saying “All the partners running Fashion GarageD are working professions. We do not have any extensive entrepreneurial background as such. We had an idea/concept we thought might work. We felt that the most difficult thing was to get out there and start validating our idea. It was hard because we, as humans, have the fear of failure. It was difficult for us to get out and start testing. In the beginning, we didn’t necessarily want to go out to sell our idea. We really wanted to test it. Facebook with its popularity and penetration in India (third largest user base in the world) was the perfect platform for us to test this idea. We wanted to understand the science and art around our experiment before going and selling it. We wanted to understand the dynamics in running an online store.”
They spoke about their startup and the reception their concept has received saying “We offer a wide range of apparels, bags, shoes, accessories under one roof. Fashion GarageD is committed to offering customers with a range of latest clothing online and a consistently great shopping experience. Fashion GarageD is a non-complicated shopping experience at your convenience, from any place in India. S
Since its inception in July, 2012 we now stand with over 800 members on Facebook.”  The entire venture came about as a solution to their own needs. As working women they found that between the house and the office not much time was left over for some serious shopping. The offerings online were also steeply priced and they decided that it was time someone did something about it. Also they added “We’ve always wanted to do something on our own, add to that the perk of not having to work for a boss and it was truly overwhelming! Make sure that you are delivering something that adds real values and solve real problems. The way to solve those problems is to get into your users’ shoes.”
FashionGarageD is a boot-strapped start up with the initial funding from the four founding partners. They felt that in keeping up with the fast growing trend of online shopping, the best time to lay their foundation in the online bazaar is now. They believe that it is easier to woo customers through an online store which one can visit and shop without any hassles.
The need to make their startup stand out is paramount to their survival. In an overcrowded space occupied by big labels and bigger sites they have decided to capitalise on their plus points. They reason that “The objective behind Fashion GarageD is to make quality products available to mainstream shoppers at a price point which is highly competitive with those of designer brands. With this objective in mind we source products from around the world and provide it to customers in India. This allows us to provide our customers with world class products at lower rates which otherwise would cost them more time and money, not to mention the risks associated with the transaction.”
Their ace in the hole is a belief that they have their fingers on the pulse of our generation. Poonam says “We believe that if your product is for people between a certain age, before you go out and start selling it, you should understand people in that age group. You should understand their needs, their wants, their desires, their willingness to buy as well as their ability to buy. We at FashionGarageD are certain that we are better placed than the larger eCommerce players in this regard.
“We like to stay connected to our customers. FashionGarageD has a blog which we keep updating so it makes it easier for our members to know the latest in the world of fashion.  We consistently advertise our products on Facebook and we are very active on Twitter as well.”
Poonam also says FashionGarageD is in for exciting days and that they have decided to scale up and have several areas that they have identified for progress. How this pans out for them; we will have to wait and watch. Until then, here is another choice for the fashionable online shopper.

How to Wear Stripes

Vertical Stripes-  Choose a sweet vertical stripe top that has sequins for accents. And no matter how cute horizontal stripes are, vertical stripes will always make you look taller and slimmer.

DrapeStripes- The cool thing about stripes is that they add an optical illusion to whatever you are wearing. So something like a drape-front top – which would be quite simple in a solid – is dramatic in stripe. Make sure you add draped stripes wherever you want to add more volume because it will make the area look larger.

Black and White Stripes- If you want a Crisp Look this is the Stripe for you. Although navy-and-white stripes are a classic, black and white stripes – especially in a small print pattern are instantly chic under a blazer, paired with black crop pants or leggings or tucked in with the new wide leg jeans.

Over-Sized CasuaStripes- When stripes are large they add a graphic, casual vibe to sportswear. Keep accessories to a minimum because an oversized stripe takes center stage in the outfit.

Menswear Stripes- Whether you opt for a pinstripe suit or a menswear stripe blouse, the menswear stripe can be great for the office or weekend depending on what you mix it with. Worn un-tucked with a beret, this top goes casual. Tuck it into a pencil skirt and belt a cardigan over it and it’s work ready.

White With Stripes- One of the best ways to wear stripes is to pair it with loads of white. You can also wear a classic navy and white tunic top with white jeans and look timelessly chic.

 Fashion Tip

Wear Different Stripes Together with Caution - You can try something funky like a variegated stripes. Just make sure that there is some consistency with the colors and/or thickness of the stripes. It works if the patterns are all of the same colour, just different ways.

How to Grow Out your Bangs

You have bangs and if you are sick of them and thinking that you have to wait months and months for them to grow out. Well you don't need to worry as there are certain specific things you can do to Grow out your bangs faster than you ever thought of. You can trade those bangs for loose updos and longer, side-swept bangs.

Buy a stretchy hairband. Getting a chic, fashionable hairband is a great idea because it can be worn at any stage of the regrowth process. Put it right at your hairline, or push it back a little further to grab and hold any strays.
Use hairspray. Using hairspray will keep your bangs back as well as any flyaways. So if you’re sick of having them in your face, use some bobby pins to pin back the hair and follow up with some hairspray.
Do different parts. You can always experiment with different parts, which is probably the best way to grow out your bangs. You can divide your bangs right down the middle and use bobby pins to make them stay put, or use some gel to slick them straight back off the forehead for a chic, no-part look.
Be patient. Although these tips will keep your hair away from your forehead and speed the growth process, it will still take time. If you just got bangs and you’re already thinking about trading them in, wait for about 3 weeks, after which the hair will be more easier to style.

Beautiful You
All Natural Remedies & Cure for your Skin and Hair
We always don't need to buy expensive products to keep ourselves  young and beautiful. Sometimes the best natural products can be found right in your own Kitchen Cabinet and fridge.

UNDERNOURISHED SKIN:
One of Cleopatra's beauty tip was to soak in a beer bath. Beer is very good for the skin because of the vitamins and yeast it contains. In Central Europe there are now many spas offering just this treatment.

ACNE REMEDIES:
Garlic is known for its anti bacterial properties and makes an excellent acne treatment. Press some garlic into a paste and leave it on your acne and pimples for 15 minutes then rinse off. Another solution is mashed-up honey and apple, applied individually to pimples. Also, try dabbing some tea tree oil on the pimple to dry it out and kill any bacteria.
There are some excellent natural face mask treatments for acne. Try applying a layer of ripe tomato pulp, cooked oatmeal or egg yolk to your face and letting it dry.
Finally, fruits are natural acid exfoliants and can help to get rid of your acne scars. Applying a puree of pineapple for 15 minutes will both freshen you up and reduce the impact of acne marks. Another great solution is lemon juice, but be careful as it can make your skin more sensitive to  sunlight.

DRY SKIN REMEDIES:
  • Make a mash of banana and leave on your face for 20 minutes.
  •  Almond oil makes a great primer before foundation because it's quickly absorbed. You can use it as a night moisturizer.
  • Mayonnaise is not only a great hydration treatment for your hair, it works wonders as a face mask too.

FACEMASK TIPS:
A good facemask will firm and tone your skin, minimizing pores and exfoliating off dead skin so the fresh skin beneath is revealed. Here's a natural and effective facemask recipe:
1 mashed avocado
1 cooked and mashed carrot
1/2 cup cream
1 beaten egg
3 tablespoons of honey
DULL HAIR
Four solutions to make your hair shiny.
1. Heat half a cup of olive oil, leave it on your hair for 15 minutes, then rinse.
2. Mix baking soda in with your shampoo.
3. Shampoo, then rinse your hair with beer. It really works!
4. Brew some coffee and let it cool, then apply to dry hair and leave for 20 mins. Rinse with warm water.
OILY HAIR
Two ideas for making your hair less oily.
1. Boil and mash up some carrots, leave on your hair for 15 minutes.
2. An old favorite - dishwasher detergent.

DRY HAIR
Massaging your hair with mayonnaise, olive oil or almond oil will add moisture back. Leave it on for 10 minutes then wash it as usual.
